In two sentences
Most travel apps send your location to a server. TripRewind doesn't — there are no servers. It records everywhere you go, links it up with notes, keeps it privately on your phone, and lets you relive any journey with your photos placed exactly where you took them.
What it does
Runs in the background, tracking GPS position, speed, stops, and activity. Works without mobile data. Survives a phone restart. Uses roughly the same battery as Google Maps (~5% per hour).
Every GPS point stored locally in an encrypted database on your phone. No account. No cloud sync. No one else's servers.
Open the app and your complete journey is on a map. Every road, every stop, every place you stayed. Notes appear as pins. Photos from your camera roll drop onto the map at the exact spot you took them, matched by GPS and timestamp entirely on your device.
GPX (hiking devices, mapping apps), CSV (spreadsheets), JSON (developers), KML (Google Earth flythrough animations).
Your entire trip history in a single AES-256-GCM encrypted file you send wherever you like. Recovery phrase in your password manager means you can restore to a new phone at any time.
Standout features
Your route, your notes, your photos — stored locally in an encrypted database. No TripRewind account, no server, no cloud.
Open a trip map and your photos appear pinned to the exact spot you took them. Matched by GPS and timestamp, entirely on your device. No upload, no cloud processing.
A trip can cover six weeks or six minutes, and they can overlap freely. "Europe 2025" and "Day in Porto" share the same GPS points — TripRewind shows both, no hierarchy required.
Drop a note at any moment. Speak it or type it; it pins to the map exactly where you were.
Stayed somewhere for 20 minutes? TripRewind detects it and labels it on the map with how long you were there. Every coffee stop, every viewpoint, every airport wait — without you doing anything.
The Rewind share card puts your route, stats, and photos into a single image. Built entirely on your device — no server involved.

- Trip playback — animated journey on the map at any speed, with photos appearing at the moments you took them
- Social share card — route, distance, time, and best photos in a single image for Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook
- Full photo overlay — every trip photo placed on the map at the exact point you took it
The privacy angle
Most GPS apps send location data to a server. TripRewind has no servers. There is no TripRewind account, no database with your movements, nothing to breach. The GPS track of your holiday, the photo at the summit, the note you dropped at that restaurant — none of it leaves your device unless you export it yourself.
This isn't a privacy setting. It's the architecture.
Who uses it
- Travellers who want a permanent record of every trip
- Hikers and walkers logging trails, distances, and elevation
- Road trippers mapping the route they drove
- Grey Nomads keeping the Big Lap forever
- Anyone who lost Google Timeline data and wants something they own
Origin story
The developer lost months of Google Timeline data when Google changed how it worked. Rather than hoping a tech company would keep the record, they built something that would keep it on the phone — forever. TripRewind is that app.
Quotes for use
"Your journey. Your data. No cloud required."
"Your data stays on your device. That's a promise, not a setting."

About
TripRewind is made by Daimo / Teremian Consulting, an independent developer based in Sydney, Australia. The app was built after losing travel history data when a tech company changed how their platform worked — a problem the developer decided to solve permanently.

Notes for reviewers
- The app records GPS in the background — testing on a real device gives the full experience; a simulator or emulator will not.
- The free version shows the full map and all recorded notes. The Rewind unlock (from $3.99–$7.99 depending on region) is needed for trip playback and social share cards.
